FAREAST 28R features in stunning debut in China Cup international regatta in Shenzen

Shanghai (29th October) – Far East Boats completed an impressive debut of the FAREAST 28R high-performance racing yacht in the China Cup international regatta in the waters of Daya Bay, Shenzen.

The China Cup, from 24th to 27th October, boasted 103 entries representing over 30 countries. A total of 16 FAREAST 28Rs were among the multinational fleet.
Far East Boats chairman Demolar Du said she was delighted with the performance of the FAREAST 28R on such a prestigious stage.

“The FAREAST 28R certainly turned heads on the water with its speed. When the wind reached around 15 knots, the 28R really showed off its exhilarating performance,” Ms Du said.

“The feedback we received from the FAREAST 28R crews was very positive. The racing was extremely competitive and the FAREAST 28R proved a valuable addition to the regatta.”
One of the FAREAST 28R fleet sailors, Kent Wretman and his fellow Swedes aboard Team Grandsegel was impressed with the speed of the boat. “We bought the boat from the drawing, we’d never seen it in the flesh, and we were pleasantly surprised when we stepped aboard for the first time,” he said.

<br/p>“It has been a very steep learning curve all the way through the regatta. This is our first time in China, our first China Cup. It’s been overwhelming. A big event, nicely organised, a lot of volunteers. We’re definitely coming back to the China Cup.”

The FAREAST 28R fleet featured entries from China, Singapore, Japan, Sweden, Russia, Italy and the Netherlands competing over seven races. The FAREAST 28R is the product of a collaboration, started in 2009, between Far East Boats and renowned international designers Simonis Voogd.
Overall class honours in the division went to Stanley Chan’s Team Constant Wind from Singapore. Second was China’s ION JoySailing Team, skippered by Faye Zhao and third was Sweden’s Team Nemo, led by Mats Runstrom.
